Hi, I'm a big hill called Hill 60 and now I'm about to tell you about me and my fellow people. One day some thing approached. It had white sails on it. Then I looked down on my people and then to the ship. It was right in front of me but it had white people on it. It had built-in cannons but one problem, was the ship didn't stop at my base because the sea was rough. So it sailed away and the captain shouted at me, "You are called Red Point!" and he also called Mt Kembla Hat Hill. Then he sailed back to England and said the Great South Land was empty. But he was very wrong. For millions of years the Aborigines had lived here. In 1788 the first fleet sailed to Australia and landed at Botany Bay. In the group of the first fleet were convicts who were prisoners from England. Bass and Flinders, with a little boy called Martin, sailed around the Five Islands in the Tom Thumb.

In 1796 Bass and Flinders sailed south in the Tom Thumb but went to Windang and found good farming land and they found coal in the nearby mountains.

Hi I am a hill . My name is Hill 60. For many years my people have treasured me. I can tell you lots about us. First is when Captain Cook was sailing by and he was looking for a Great South Land for his people that could not fit in gaols there. My people were called the Wodi Wodi people. They are Aborigines. Captain Cook saw a place and named it Red Point and Hat Hill. He sailed through to Botany Bay and saw that it was an ideal place for his people to stay at. But it was not empty. The Aborigines were living there for many thousands of years. So Captain Cook went back to England and told the men that he had found a place for the men and woman to stay. My people ate vegetables, fish and animals. They wore animal skin and the men's job was to catch their food and the women's job was to cook it. They slept in caves and when it was rainy it was dangerous because the water went into the caves and would have taken them out to sea. Captain Cook's friends were sailing up to Sydney but a terrible storm hit. They all went down back to Sydney Harbour.

Today Captain Cook sailed past me on the Endeavour. Cook was sent to find a Great South Land. Captain Cook sailed into Botany Bay. He thought it would be an ideal place for his people to build a town. Captain Cook sailed back to England and reported that he had found an empty land. In a few years time the First Fleet arrived in Botany Bay. When the white people arrived they passed many diseases to the Aboriginal people. After a few years Bass and Flinders sailed in the Tom Thumb. Two of the Five Islands were named after Bass and Flinders. They named Tom Thumb Lagoon. Bass and Flinders landed at Windang. Bass and Flinders went back to England and reported they had found good farming lands and food.

''Hi, my name is Hill 60. Let me tell you about my life living in Port Kembla. In my land over 10 groups of Aborigines. We helped each other, until Captain Cook sailed by. Unfortunately he didn't land at Port Kembla. He landed at Botany Bay. He thought that the land was empty. So he told the King of England he had found a land good for jails, farming lands and houses. But it was not empty, over 40 groups of Aborigines were living in Australia. The Aborigines called me Coomaditchie. But Captain Cook called me Hill 60. In 1788 the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay. As the years went by many Aborigines died. In1796 Bass and Flinders sailed by Port Kembla. They sailed into Tom Thumb Lagoon. Bass and Flinders landed at Windang. They reported that they had found good coal in the near by mountains. Now nearly all of Australia is fall of houses, factories and shops. Now Aborigines go to buy food from shops.
